1957 Ford Thunderbird Custom Convertible

description

This custom 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible received a professional frame-off rotisserie restoration and has been built to Pro-Touring standards.

This Goodguys Award of Excellence winner is powered by a fully rebuilt 408ci Windsor engine fitted with Canfield aluminum heads, a COMP Cams performance hydraulic roller cam, JE pistons, 4-inch stroke, with a 9.5 to 1 compression producing a dyno-tested 491hp and 565 ft/lbs of torque. Most engine parts are either polished or chrome and the headers are ceramic-coated.

A stock Thunderbird shifter controls the 3-speed automatic transmission. The car also features a March pulley drive system with a chrome Vintage Air compressor, aluminum radiator with electric fans and a custom exhaust system.

The bodywork and paint were completed to a high level of quality with excellent fit and finish, and the brightwork has been rechromed or replaced with new components.

The exterior is finished in Turquoise Pearl over a Lime Gold base. The engine compartment was refinished to the same quality as the exterior with a custom-fabricated radiator surround and smoothed firewall. The frame has been braced and modified to handle the additional power. The new front clip is fitted with a power rack & pinion steering, tubular upper and lower control arms, and coilover suspension. The rear has a modified leaf spring suspension which supports a narrowed Ford 9-inch rear end with Moser axles, built by Hensel Motorsports.

This T-Bird rides on Cragar wheels wrapped in radial tires and features power disc brakes and Vintage Air. The frame and suspension parts have been painted or powder-coated to match the exterior of the vehicle.

This T-Bird comes with two tops, a new white soft-top and a removable "porthole" hardtop painted in a White Pearl over a Lime Gold base.

The matching white and turquoise vinyl bench seat interior has been restored and upgraded with modern AutoMeter gauges, power windows controlled by the original window cranks, an Ididit chrome column topped with a correct Thunderbird steering wheel and a new, period-correct stereo with cassette player.

The trunk has been finished to the same standard as the interior with a custom battery box and battery cutoff switch.

With only 850 miles since completion, the sale includes a car cover, hardtop carrier, build receipts, spec sheets and the dyno sheet.
